Marvel at Mara Hoffman

Beautiful, exotic, tribal print clash. Another stunning collection by Mara Hoffman – bikinis, swimsuits and floaty silk cover ups with divine detailing.  The neon green frilly bandeau bikini is on my lust list.  And I can see myself wafting around in that kaftan with bare feet and a smile.  Loving her blog too.

Chanel athletics by the sea

I can’t stop looking at Chanel’s incredible Spring/Summer ’12 campaign styled by the inimitable Carine Roitfeld and shot at the Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc. Is that a pearly white nail polish that I can spy? I’m predicting it’s the colour used in their Spring / summer ’12 show called Attraction, available from May. Better get your name on the wait list!

Behold this YSL beauty

I can’t decide what I love most about this incredible YSL swimsuit.  The plunging neckline?  The 80s high thigh-cut?  The nautical anchor appliqué?  The classic black silhouette? This is very Goldie Hawn in Overboard – those fabulous, iconic one-piece swimsuits she wears before she falls off her yacht and into the scheming arms of Kurt Russell.

To modernise this look, just add the Stella McCartney capelet from her Cruise 2012 collection.  And of course why wouldn’t you throw on the matching YSL anchor charm bracelet and anchor embroidered suede wedges.  net-a-porter.com

Versace for H&M SS’12

Versace for H&M SS’12 collection brings us a tasty little selection of fruity beach wear featuring some of our favourite iconic and archival Versace magic.  And no need to sharpen those elbows, the collection is available only online from January 19th, here.

Zimmerman Resort 2012

Zimmerman, one of my all time favourite swimwear brands, love the bohemian feel of the current resort collection featuring natural muted tones (for those in fear of neon!) and layering of bangles, bracelets and necklaces.  That white maxi skirt with sky high split and the show-stopping blue one piece are on my wish list.

Temptation Island – Vogue US

Girl-of-the-moment Karlie Kloss by Mario Testino.  A powerful print story and the freshest spring colours with peeps of swimwear by Eres, Tori Praver Swimwear, Nina Ricci. Almost time to dig out the Hawaiian shirts and make them new again. That Stella McCartney Hawaiian-print cotton top (2nd from the bottom) is popping up all over the place, we’re having a South Pacific moment.

Harper’s Bazaar Australia January 2012

Dark glamour, urban sophistication showcasing sports luxe swimwear layered up with striking, bold accessories.  A hard edge look, not for the faint-hearted. Metallics, leather, rubber, neoprene, steel – not your everyday swimwear ensembles but we’ll be seeing more and more of this.

Bette Franke by Benny Horne for Harper’s Bazaar Australia January 2012.

Sports luxe

Modernist sports aesthetics are big for the season – simple shapes, uncomplicated finishes, practical block colours with a hint of print.  Lisa Marie Fernandez leads the charge on sporty swimwear with neoprene fabrics that mold the body and hold in all the bits needing extra coverage / support. And they’re a little bit bond girl!

Tangy Tangerine Tango

Colour authority Pantone has declared ‘Tangerine Tango’ as the colour for 2012.  Aptly applied to SS’12 swimwear for a glamorous 70s feel and the perfect accompaniment to lovely tanned limbs.

“Sophisticated but at the same time dramatic and seductive, Tangerine Tango is an orange with a lot of depth to it,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. “Reminiscent of the radiant shadings of a sunset, Tangerine Tango marries the vivaciousness and adrenaline rush of red with the friendliness and warmth of yellow, to form a high-visibility, magnetic hue that emanates heat and energy.”
