Marvel at Mara Hoffman

Beautiful, exotic, tribal print clash. Another stunning collection by Mara Hoffman – bikinis, swimsuits and floaty silk cover ups with divine detailing.  The neon green frilly bandeau bikini is on my lust list.  And I can see myself wafting around in that kaftan with bare feet and a smile.  Loving her blog too.

Mara Hoffman.

Chanel athletics by the sea

I can’t stop looking at Chanel’s incredible Spring/Summer ’12 campaign styled by the inimitable Carine Roitfeld and shot at the Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc. Is that a pearly white nail polish that I can spy? I’m predicting it’s the colour used in their Spring / summer ’12 show called Attraction, available from May. Better get your name on the wait list!

Behold this YSL beauty

I can’t decide what I love most about this incredible YSL swimsuit.  The plunging neckline?  The 80s high thigh-cut?  The nautical anchor appliqué?  The classic black silhouette? This is very Goldie Hawn in Overboard – those fabulous, iconic one-piece swimsuits she wears before she falls off her yacht and into the scheming arms of Kurt Russell.

To modernise this look, just add the Stella McCartney capelet from her Cruise 2012 collection.  And of course why wouldn’t you throw on the matching YSL anchor charm bracelet and anchor embroidered suede wedges.

Fierce beach

A far cry from the aqua blue water and pristine, cloudless skies of traditional Cruise campaign shots.  Mert & Marcus’ moody beach scene for Givenchy leaves me wanting more – I want to know what happens next…?!

Versace for H&M SS’12

Versace for H&M SS’12 collection brings us a tasty little selection of fruity beach wear featuring some of our favourite iconic and archival Versace magic.  And no need to sharpen those elbows, the collection is available only online from January 19th, here.

The Visor

The panama is dead this spring summer.  No longer relegated to ‘mum’ status, the visor is back but with a modernist edge – neoprene was key across many of the Cruise catwalks. From top to bottom:  Russian Vogue, Marc Jacobs, Kenzo, Mulberry, Givenchy, Balenciaga, Mulberry.

Zimmerman Resort 2012

Zimmerman, one of my all time favourite swimwear brands, love the bohemian feel of the current resort collection featuring natural muted tones (for those in fear of neon!) and layering of bangles, bracelets and necklaces.  That white maxi skirt with sky high split and the show-stopping blue one piece are on my wish list.

‘Wet look chignon’ beach hair

Effortlessly roll off the beach at sunset, wet look chignon, voluminous Etro maxi, delicate Valentino flats, you own the night!  Genius blog asked Guido, Redken’s Creative Consultant how to recreate his Bottega Veneta wet look chignon…

1)  Apply a volumising mousse (the hair team backstage at Bottega Veneta used Redken’s Full Frame 07 – volumizing mousse) all through towel-dry hair and let it dry naturally.

2)  If you’re in a rush, flip the damp hair forward and blast the hair dryer on high from underneath. This will give your strands the volume they need.

3)  Now focus on getting the wet look. For that, Guido suggests to apply Argan oil all through the hair using fingers. This will give a silky shine. Remember to only do this once your hair is completely dry.

4)  Use your fingers to pull the hair back into a low ponytail. Tie is loosely with a hair tie at ear level. Do note that there isn’t a parting in the hair.

5)  Now wrap the ponytail into a messy low bun / chignon and secure with bobby pins. Pull a few strands out here and there if you want to add to the effortless look of the style.

Maslin & Co nudie beach towels

Have you ever seen a more luxurious beach towel?  The name Maslin & Co is derived from the first nude beach in Australia, a utopia-like haven for nudie rudie artists, travellers and vagabonds and the designs take their cues from nature and the glamorous, hedonistic 1970s.

Deliciously soft 100% cotton, reversible and each come with a leather holster.  The perfect stocking filler for the intrepid beach traveller.
